WHAT QUESTIONS DO I ASK
PHYSICAL INJURY

Information to bring to a doctor/therapist:

  •  When and how (gradual or instantaneous) did the pain begin?
  • What movement triggers/aggravates the pain?
  •  What treatments (rest, ice, stretching, warming up) help deal with the pain?
  •  General information about your physical and mental health (changes or specifics of a choreography or training, increased stress at school, in family, at work, in relationships).

Information to ask a doctor/therapist:

  •  What are the possible diagnoses?
  • If there is no clear diagnosis, is there another health professional or testing that could provide one?

Note that if you do get a test, you can request a copy of the test results - they belong to you by law. You may have to pay a small fee to get a DVD or a report, but this can be useful if you are consulting more than one professional

When there is a diagnosis, what are possible treatment plans
  • how long do I rest
  • when and how do I start training again
  • what preventative measures can I take
  • What activities and specific movements should I avoid with this injury?

Following this treatment plan
  • what is an approximate time line for recovery and at what rate can I begin to integrate my full range of activities?
  • How often should I follow-up and with whom?
